Site Overview: UHN West Park is a rehabilitation and complex care facility focused on specialized patient recovery services. The site supports individuals with complex medical needs, requiring a strong emphasis on patient safety, continuous monitoring, and collaboration with clinical teams in a secure healthcare environment.
Position: Temporary Full-Time Security Guard
Site: UHN West Park
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement after 88 hours
Hours: Continental Rotation (0800-2000/2000-0800)
Payrate: $ 19.19/hr

Key responsibilities:
- Provide continuous 1:1 observation of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevent self-harm, elopement, or behavioural risks
- Maintain a professional, calm, and visible security presence within patient care areas
- Monitor and document patient behaviour, escalating concerns promptly to nursing staff
- Support clinical teams in managing high-risk patients while following UHN and West Park protocols
- Utilize de-escalation techniques to manage challenging or volatile situations
- Respond promptly to emergency codes, alarms, and incidents within the facility
- Conduct patrols of designated areas, including hallways, patient units, and entrances/exits as required
- Control and monitor access to restricted areas, ensuring compliance with hospital policies
- Operate CCTV, alarms, and other security systems to detect and report suspicious activity
- Provide assistance and direction to patients, visitors, and staff in a professional manner
- Accurately document all observations, incidents, and interventions in accordance with site and company standards
Prerequisites:
- Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
- Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
- Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella , Covid Vaccine two doses, and two step TB skin test
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must
- One year experience in security, or law enforcement is an asset
- Must be able to clean-shav for N95 mask fit testing
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services will be an asset
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
Please be aware: The UOF/MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-employment requisite; however, Paladin will cover all the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
