Job Skills / Requirements

In addition to all duties and expectations of a security guard, a Corporal has the additional duties and responsibilities as follows: 

A Corporal holds an indispensable responsibility within the company, and that is the initial training of Guard Services Guard Trainees.  This is especially true for non-lateral trainees (those with no other security experience), the Corporal assists with laying the foundation of the trainee’s on the job training for a successful career in the private security industry.  They are responsible for the professional development of guard trainees, especially in the following subjects: 
  1. Officer Safety 
  2. Relative California Penal, Vehicle, and Regulator Codes 
  3. Situational Awareness 
  4. Report Writing & Other Required Documentation 
  5. Foot Patrol Tactics / Techniques 
  6. Consensual Contacts 
  7. De-Escalation Techniques 
  8. Base Knowledge of Armed Guard Private Security, Inc. Employee Policy. 
Corporals are also charged with conducting random supervisory inspections, checking guards for the following compliance issues: 
  1. Possession of VALID government issued photo ID. 
  2. Possession of valid guard card. 
  3. Possession of any required state issued weapons permits. 
  4. Possession of any required company issued weapon registration cards. 
  5. The proper wear of the uniform, to include exposed patches, chest badge, and company ID badge (properly displayed on the upper right portion of the uniform on the outermost garment). 
  6. They are to also check all authorized weapons are in proper working order as follows: 
    1. Baton is free of damage and rust, and appears (if expandable) to be able to properly expand, lock, and collapse). 
    2. Firearms magazines are topped off to full, legal capacity (no more than 10 round magazines) and hollow point ammunition only is used. 
Further, Corporals are to address any training needs beyond initial training they observe while in the field.  If something observed is outside of their knowledge or training capacity, they are to notify a sergeant through the appropriate chain of command and request assistance and/or guidance with said training needs. 
 
In ALL cases, the Corporal is charged with the well-being of not only the guards under their command, but the welfare of the Company as well. 

Supervisor Expectations

Leadership & Supervision: 
  • Uphold ethical standards and integrity in all actions.
  • Model professional behavior and set a positive example for staff.
  • Foster open and transparent communication with staff through regular team meetings and one-on-one check-ins.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee information.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all assigned employees, ensuring they are performing their duties effectively.
  • Act as the liaison between officers and higher-ranking command.
  • Provide clear guidance and support to new or junior officers as needed.
  • Ensure officers are conducting patrols as scheduled and following post orders.
  • Show schedule flexibility and willingness to work overtime for call outs or emergency assignments.
Training and Development: 
  • Facilitate ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to assigned employees.
Incident Reporting & Documentation: 
  • Oversee and review reports submitted by officers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all incidents, maintenance issues, and policy violations.
  • Use TrackTik security software for real-time incident reporting.
Client & Public Interaction: 
  • Maintain professional communication with clients, tenants, and the public.
  • Report concerns raised by property managers, tenants, or business owners to management.
Emergency Response & Problem-Solving: 
  • Take charge during emergencies, coordinate responses, and notify law enforcement or emergency services when necessary.
  • Follow proper procedures in handling trespassers, property damage, or medical emergencies.
Administrative Duties: 
  • Ensure proper shift handovers and relay important updates to incoming officers.
  • Assist in scheduling and deployment of personnel as needed.
  • Monitor equipment (radios, flashlights, key cards, etc.) and report any malfunctions.
Safety and Health: 
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing workplace safety policies and conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Report any safety concerns to management immediately.
Conflict Resolution: 
  • Work with Human Resources to address and resolve workplace conflicts promptly and fairly.
  • Mediate disputes to maintain a positive work environment.
Compliance with Laws: 
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local employment laws, maintaining a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
  • Follow California labor laws, including wage and hour regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. 

Guard Services Corporal I
Wage Scale: $18.04 - $19.69 per hour
Other requirements:
  • At least 6 months experience with Armed Guard or 1 year previous leadership experience
  • Chemical Agent certification
  • Taser certification
  • Baton permit
  • All three less than lethal weapons registered with administration
Guard Services Corporal II
Wage Scale: $19.04 - $20.74 per hour
Other requirements:
  • At least 6 months experience with Armed Guard or 1 year previous leadership experience
  • Firearm permit
  • Chemical Agent certification
  • Taser certification
  • Baton permit
  • All weapons above registered with administration
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for majority of assigned shifts.
Must be able to physically control hostile subjects, including restraining in handcuffs, if/when required.
Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. in a safe manner on occasion.
Must be able to safely retain any weapons on person against potential assailants who may try to take them from the guard. 


This job reports to the Captain of Guard Services

This is a Full-Time position 1st Shift, 2nd Shift, 3rd Shift, Weekends.

Travel is required occasionally
