Summary
An accounts payable intern's responsibilities include processing invoices, filing documents, and answering questions. They also learn about finance policies and procedures. Accounting interns also support financial operations, maintain financial records, and assist with financial analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Process invoices, including non-purchase order invoices
- Open and sort mail
- File documents
- Prepare invoices for payment
- Make journal entries
- Assist with the payables and accrual close process
- Answer questions about expenses
- Prepare reports
- Communicate with internal and external users
- Notify staff of discrepancies
Learning
- Learn about finance policies and procedures
- Gain an understanding of the company's operations
Other duties of an intern
- Fulfill tasks assigned by a supervisor
- Perform clerical duties

Qualifications
- Proven experience in general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial reports effectively.
- Solid understanding of accounts payable processes and tax regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in forecasting is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with financial management principles is preferred.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or related field.
- 2 years of equivalent experience in similar role.
- Highly proficient using a personal computer (PC) and Microsoft Products (e.g. Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
- Able to pass pre-employment drug test and work in a drug free workplace.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to multitask and work well in a team setting.
- Experience working with ERP systems
Physical Demands
- Stationary Position: stationery frequently remains up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day
- Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
- Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 20 pounds
